Dear ESS Members,

With this Newsletter it gives me great pleasure to invite you to the 14th ESS Annual Conference in Turin on the 25th - 27th November, 2010. The main topic of the Conference is Research and Innovation in Europe, New targets for the surgeon and new opportunities for the patient. Prof. Alfonso Barbarisi, our President and prof. Guido Gasparri, host of the Conference are sparing no efforts to make it a great event. The deadline for submission of abstracts is 15th September, 2010. Please mark your calendar with this important date !
Besides taking part in the scientific programme, you can take advantage of the social programme that is being prepared by the organizers. Turin is certainly a beautiful city and it has much to offer to tourists throughout the year.

The link to the Conference with all relevant information is on our website www.essurg.org.

The Board of the European Society of Surgery is pleased to announce that our Society, being a partner organization to the U.E.M.S. has been offered a unique opportunity to perform in cooperation of the UEMS the exam in GenSurg and GenViscSurg. There are two qualifications oferred : GenSurg is open for everybody (see Eligibility criteria), with and without national CCST, from EU or abroad. GenViscSurg is a specialization following GenSurg with an augmented syllabus and national CCST as prerequisite (something comparabel to endocrine, Tx, HBP, Coloproctology...). The first exam will be held in Turin, Italy, on November 25th 2010 during the Annual Conference. The exam is the recognition of superior surgical knowledge and skills. It gives the candidate the privilege to use the title of the FELLOW OF THE EUROPEAN BOARD OF SURGERY - GENERAL/VISCERAL SURGERY.

We encourage all ESS members and other colleagues in surgical profession to arrive and take the exam.

To obtain more information and to send application, please visit the U.E.M.S. website: www.uemssurg.org

Last, but not least message is that in the meantime we prepared the list of the postgraduate courses organized in Krakow under the patronate of the ESS. All topics were approved by the Board during our last meeting in Turin, on 29th of May. The courses will start in September 2010. I hope some of you will find areas of specific interest and join us in Krakow. The postgraduate courses organized by the ESS give 6 credit points for the U.E.M.S. eligibility criteria.

Look forward to seeing you in Turin.
